Pyrite Removal

Pyrite is a sulphite mineral which reacts to humidity and oxygen, making the pyrite swell. First signs are in the floors with cracking and heaving. Pyrite damage can extend to the foundation walls. The greater the thickness, the greater the damage can be.

The removal steps are as follows.
  • Break and remove concrete from garage floor.
  • Excavate pyritic material.
  • Repair all cracks in foundation.
  • Backfill with DB certified material. (3/4 inch clean gravel)
  • Install Geo textile membrane.
  • Install Polyethylene (vapour barrier).
  • Install garage drain box. Which is gravity feed to sump pit.
  • Pour new 4 inch reinforced concrete slab.
  • Remove all excess material
  • Clean the work area
